All organisations, Pledger and above (Pledger +), commit to:
Carbon Reduction Plan
1.1 We will set out our plans to meet net zero in alignment with national targets*, including interim targets, recognising that the majority of cuts need to be made by 2030. We will publish this, and our progress against it, annually.
Interim Targets
1.2 We will set an interim target to reduce our net direct and indirect carbon emissions for 2030 (Scope 1, 2 and – where appropriate – 3)**, which aligns with or exceeds government strategy. For major projects that end before 2030, a suitable target will be set for the end date of that project instead.
Carbon Offsetting
1.3 We recognise that emissions reduction is essential. Where offsetting is used, we will publish our approach and the schemes that we are using.
Carbon Literacy
1.4 We will implement a carbon literacy programme which includes that in our leadership team who have influence over the built environment.
* 2050 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 2045 in Scotland.
** See www.ghgprotocol.com for further details.
Compliance to the CRCBE is reviewed annually. In the initial application and at the point of review, compliant organisations are required to provide evidence of a carbon reduction plan (or the creation of one in the first year) targeting net zero in alignment with national targets and annually published progress reports.

"Signing up to the Code made perfect sense to our company, since the Code Pledger commitments really aligned with our environmental values."
Duncan NcNicol
Head of Risk and Compliance
"Not only has joining created a mechanism for Interclass to demonstrate its sustainability credentials but having our plans and targets independently verified and audited is helping to accelerate our carbon reduction journey."
Sara Barnes
Preconstruction Manager
"The organisation considers the Code not as a badge, but as a serious commitment that requires real data, annual reporting and quantifiable improvements in businesses."
Emma Bull
Senior Framework Manager
Typically, frameworks have a relatively small carbon footprint themselves but a large influence over carbon reduction through their projects. Frameworks can achieve Pledger level compliance to the CRCBE by requiring the Pledger level commitments from their partners. Further guidance will be published soon, but in the meantime please get in touch with any queries.
